Vintage and exceptional wines

Anjou wine is an exceptional wine. Domaine des Petits Quarts has been producing it since 1887. It has received numerous awards at national and international competitions. These awards are the result of years of hard work and attention to the vines. Only one grape variety is used, Chenin, to produce several exceptional Anjou wines.

A wine from a unique grape variety: Chenin

We have chosen to focus exclusively on Chenin because it’s a versatile variety ideal for crafting dry and sweet wines. It thrives in our estate’s schist and granite soils and is the source of our wines’ distinctive aromatic profile.

The temperate climate of Anjou gives mild temperatures combined with the Atlantic breezes and a touch of humidity, which creates perfect conditions for vine growth. These conditions also favor the development of Botrytis cinerea (noble rot), a natural phenomenon that shrivels the grapes and concentrates their sugars and aromas. The resulting juice is rich ; powerful and complex.

Our vineyards are planted on steep slopes with a 25% incline which is a key factor in producing high-quality grapes. This terrain combined with our expertise, allows us to craft wines of remarkable character and elegance.

White wines from Anjou produced at Domaine des Petits Quarts

The grapes are hand-harvested at full ripeness, with three to ten selective passes through each plot to ensure only the finest fruit is picked. This precise and thoughtful approach allows us to offer you exceptional white wines :

• Anjou Blanc Burnizellus (2022 marks its first vintage) is grown in the heart of Bonnezeaux. The grapes are harvested very ripe to preserve the full expression of the terroir. The wine is then fermented and aged on the lees in clay jars for one year.
• Anjou Blanc Mea Culpa, aged in 400 liter oak barreals, which give it a subtle, elegant hint of wood.
• Anjou Blanc Printemps is fermented in buried vats for several weeks. This sweet white wine reveals delicate notes of white flowers, fresh fruit and a hint of English candy.

The AOC Anjou Wine

Our Anjou white wines carry the appellation d’origine contrôlée (AOC) designation. Produced in Faye-d’Anjou, in the heart of the Coteaux du Layon region, our wines are part of the official AOC area. This certification guarantees the origin of the grapes, the grape variety used and our winemaking practives. It ensures the authenticity and quality of our wines.
